Best of Both Worlds

Original sketch

This is a book I made for a friend of mine that combines two things I enjoy very much, book-making and  painting.  the book is a total of 88 pages and has drawing paper, watercolor paper, marker paper, and black canson paper.

More Books...I know, big surprise

This week at my internship I learned how to do a Japanese Stab Binding...I did most of the cutting, folding, and gluing last week and this week I learned the stitch.

Also, I made this curved spine book.  The book cloth used for the spine is actually an old pair of my jeans from when I was in middle school.  Jean also taught me how to back fabric with paper so they can be used as book cloth...which was a huge plus cuz I was running out of book cloth.

Trying Something New

Close up on the dreamcatcher

Here are a few quick little books that I made because I was inspired by a pair of shoes I own and it expanded from there.  I think they turned out cool though, especially the dreamcatcher.  Still the first try at theses ideas.

This week...

This week at my internship...I made 15 copies of this stiff leaf book...all with different colors for the spine.  Jean did the printing on the inside and I cut, glued, and assembled all 15 of the books before noon.  This one is the copy that I was lucky enough to keep.

One of my many talents...

This is a hand-made book I learned how to make a last week at my internship...it's sewing on tapes, but also weaving the tapes into a paper cover and the bottom one, of the two tapes I used, is also paper.  I also learned a really cool new stitch.
